通过牧师的个人遭遇，考验其宗教信仰。6年后的作品《沙漠中的西蒙》与此片一脉相承，超现实化的表现手法也将这一切更加直白的呈现。两部作品的结局都却是截然不同的两条道路，本片中牧师在被几次“审判”之后，依然选择对自己的上帝虔诚。但从整体来看，这一路的经历却如流水账，难以留下深刻印象。

A fairly eventless dialogue-driven story takes two lonely hearts around a wonderful walk through the explicit reconstitution of a small Italian town by the sea, full of tiny bridges and narrow streets. A few uninspired dialogues contributed to a couple of bland moments, quickly eclipsed by a memorable & invirogorating dance scene to shake some waists up before an exceptional finale. In it the emotional outburst & heart-breaking separation are symbolized by the positioning of the characters in deep field and the travelled distance of the Eternal Woman from one man to the other.
